Harold Levy - Participant

Mr. Levy is the executive director of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. Prior to working for the Foundation, Mr. Levy was the managing director of Palm Ventures, LLC, an education practice head of a family office that invests in businesses with a transformative social impact, the special counsel for Plainfield Asset Management LLC, a special situations/distressed debt hedge fund with over $4 billion, the executive vice president of Kaplan, Inc, where he started Kaplan University’s online School of Education, the first non-educator chancellor of New York City schools, and the director of global compliance and associate general counsel at Citigroup.

Mr. Levy received a B.S. from Cornell University in industrial and labor relations, an M.A. in politics, philosophy, and economics from the University of Oxford, and a J.D. from Cornell Law School. He also holds honorary degrees from Baruch, Bard, and St. Francis colleges.

Mr. Levy has served on many boards and committees, including the U.S. Department of Education Committee on Measures of Student Success, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority National Adjudicatory Council, the New York State Board of Regents, and the Commission on School Facilities and Maintenance Reform. He was also a trustee of Andover College, the American Museum of Natural History, Carnegie Hall, Cornell University, the Roosevelt Institute, Hesser College, Kaplan University, the Lincoln Center Institute, and the New York City School Construction Authority. He currently serves on the boards of the Presidents Advisory Council at Teachers College, Columbia University, American College of Greece, the Hechinger Institute on Education and the Media, Luxembourg Income Study Center, Cambium Learning Group, and Met Schools, Inc.

Mr. Levy has received numerous awards and honors, was an adjunct professor at Columbia University, and is the author of numerous articles and editorials.
