Gaurav Tewari - Participant

Gaurav leads venture capital investments in innovative technology companies, and collaborates closely with Citigroup's executive leadership to drive internal growth initiatives as well as strategic alliances with emerging businesses on a global basis. With extensive experience in various leadership, investing, and operating capacities across the technology industry, Gaurav has led investments in dozens of private companies and has held numerous board seats.

Prior to Citigroup, Gaurav was Managing Director of SAP Ventures, the venture capital franchise of SAP, the leading global provider of enterprise applications and analytics software. Prior to SAP, Gaurav was Principal of Highland Capital Partners, a premier venture capital investment firm with offices in the United States, China, and Europe. Gaurav has also held leadership positions within Corporate Strategy and Product Management at Microsoft Corporation. Earlier in his career, with McKinsey & Company, he developed strategies and drove operational improvements at some of the world’s largest financial institutions and high-tech companies.  In the broader Silicon Valley community, Gaurav serves as Head of Entrepreneurship for the MIT Club of Northern California, and is a mentor to several technology startups. Gaurav speaks frequently on venture capital, technology trends, and entrepreneurship at industry conferences and community events.

Gaurav holds the distinction of having invented 9 issued US technology patents and has authored original research papers relating to innovation, technology, and society that have been published in conference proceedings, academic journals, and books. He has been honored with awards and recognized for his contributions by national and international organizations, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Ford Foundation, Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Computing Research Association (CRA), Sigma Xi (the Scientific Research Society), IBM Corporation, Microsoft, the Omnicom Media Group, and others.  

Gaurav graduated as Valedictorian of the MBA program at the Wharton School of Finance. He received Bachelors and Masters degrees in Computer Science and Economics with highest distinction from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has been conferred US permanent residency on the basis of ‘Extraordinary Ability’ (EB-1A classification), in recognition of his achievements and contributions.
