Taryn Southern - Participant

Taryn Southern is an artist, writer and producer with more than 700 million views across her online content. As one of the first creators on YouTube, Taryn has spent the last decade at the intersection of emerging tech and storytelling.

Taryn’s directorial debut I AM HUMAN, a sci-fi documentary following three of the first real-world “cyborgs,” premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in May 2019. In 2018, Taryn released the world’s first solo pop album composed with artificial intelligence, I AM AI, demonstrating the possibilities of human/AI creative collaboration. Her other emerging technology projects include a Google grant to write/produce an interactive VR series, which was nominated for Best Interactive at the Streamy Awards and featured in Ayzenberg’s XR Gallery. In 2018, Taryn released the world’s first “song token” on the blockchain, enabling artists to share royalties with an infinite number of collaborators using Ethereum technology.

Currently, Taryn sits on the board of the National Academy of Medicine’s Longevity Challenge, which aims to award teams around the world for their breakthroughs in longevity science and she has advised/invested in Cue (consumer biotech), Werk (flexible work solutions for women), and Extend Fertility (scaleable egg freezing). Taryn has performed and spoken at Google’s AI Summit, The NY Times AI Conference, Web Summit, The Next Web, VidCon, and Near Future Festival, and has been invited to speak at numerous symposiums worldwide. She continues to write, publish and host content on advanced technologies such as egg freezing, sleep, stem cells, and biotracking for TechCrunch, Business Insider, and others.
