The Commission champions vibrant and responsible journalism as a critical component of self-government and accountability; believes in a world where new forms of communication and technology enhance, rather than diminish a healthy democracy; and sees digitally- and civically-literate citizens as the fundamental drivers of a vibrant American future.

In the report Crisis in Democracy: Renewing Trust in America, the Commission unanimously recommends cross-sector, guiding actions to restore trust in media and democracy. The Commission calls on all stakeholders—journalists, media distributors, government and business leaders, and, most importantly, each American—to acknowledge their unique responsibilities and work together toward fair and sustainable democratic governance.
