Julia Johnson is the President of Net Communications, a firm specializing in regulatory policy and analysis, public affairs and advancing diversity.
Ms. Johnson is a Director of American Water Works Company, where she chairs Nominating and Governance. Ms. Johnson also serves on the board of NorthWestern Energy, where she chairs the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. Additionally, Ms. Johnson is a Director of FirstEnergy Corporation. She serves on FirstEnergy’s Corporate Governance and Nuclear Committees.
Ms. Johnson served as commissioner of the Florida Public Service Commission for two consecutive terms from 1992-1999 and by appointment of Florida Governor Lawton Chiles, served as chairman from 1997-1999. She also served as the state chair of the Federal/State Joint Board on Universal Service.
In 2003, Ms. Johnson served as the chair of the Federal Communications Commission’s Advisory Committee on Diversity for Communications in the Digital Age. In 2007, Ms. Johnson served on the Florida Tax and Budget Reform Committee, by appointment of Speaker of the Florida House Marco Rubio.
Ms. Johnson also serves as Chairwoman for Communications Policy Development and Outreach for the Florida State Conference of the NAACP. In September 2011, Ms. Johnson was elected Chair of the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council.
Ms. Johnson holds a B.S. degree in business management and J.D. degree from the University of Florida College of Law.
