Valerie Green is executive vice president and chief legal officer for Ligado Networks, joining the company after more than seven years in the Obama Administration. Most recently, Valerie was at the White House as an Assistant to the President and Director of Presidential Personnel, where she led the Administration’s efforts to recruit, develop, and retain talented candidates to serve as presidential appointees in agencies and departments across the government.
Prior to joining Presidential Personnel, Valerie was the general counsel at the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). During her time at CNCS, Valerie provided strategic counsel to the federal agency that runs national service programs including AmeriCorps, VISTA, Senior Corps and the Social Innovation Fund. She helped CNCS develop and launch innovative partnerships to expand national service and advance policy priorities for other Federal agencies and local communities. Valerie helped to start FEMA Corps (focused on disaster relief and recovery) and justice AmeriCorps (providing legal aid for unaccompanied minors). Before CNCS, Valerie had several roles in the White House, including Deputy Special Counsel to the President and Special Assistant to the President.
Prior to joining the Obama Administration, Valerie was an attorney on Hillary Clinton's 2008 campaign for President. Valerie started her career as a litigator at Cravath, Swaine & Moore (in New York) and later practiced at Venable (in Baltimore) and Wiley, Rein (in Washington, DC). She has also worked in the non-profit sector as a Justice Harry A. Blackmun Fellow at the Center for Reproductive Law and Policy and at People for the American Way.
Valerie received a BA in Political Science from Barnard College and a JD from New York University School of Law. She lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland with her three children.
