Marc Spiegler - Participant

As Art Basel's Global Director, Marc Spiegler leads the organization's activities worldwide. Art Basel stages three premier art fairs, sited in Basel, Miami Beach, and Hong Kong, which together spotlight more than 500 of the world's top galleries and their artists. Spiegler, 47, joined Art Basel as co-director in 2007 and became its global director in 2012. During his first six years, Art Basel developed into a truly global platform, through its expansion to Asia and various major digital initiatives, such as the Crowdfunding Initiative in partnership with Kickstarter. Before joining Art Basel, the Franco-American Spiegler worked as a journalist for 15 years, covering the art world, alongside architecture, design, the high-technology industry, and politics. He holds a BA in Political Science from Haverford College, a UD from the University of Kent (UK) and an MSJ from Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism in Chicago. From 2012-2014, he served first as Vice-Chairman, then as Chairman of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on the Role of Arts in Society.
